Scope & Content Unsigned, unpublished article on the history of the Gilead House, 2 miles north of Sausalito near what is now Marin City - 17 pages, written between 1986-1992. Topics include the early use of land by the Miwok Indians; settlement by William Antonio Richardson who married Maira Antonia Martinez; the effect of the Gold Rush and the involvement of Samuel Throckmorton in Richardson's financial affairs; development of the Sausalito Land & Ferry Co., North Pacific Coast Railroad and Sausalito as a vacation retreat for the wealthy one of whom was Col. Obediah Livermore who built "Gilead." The remainder of the article describes the changes to Leadside Valley during WWII when Marin City was built as housing for workers of the Marinship, and also covers changes of ownership of Gilead which was still occupied in 1986 by four generations of descendants of Chandler Burgess who acquired the property in 1907.
